New Yorkers woke to a messy mix of snow, sleet and rain on Saturday, but forecasters predict a “bombogenesis” could still be on the way.
The quick-fire pressure drop could ramp up Winter Storm Iola as it slides up the East Coast on its way to Canada, Weather.com reported.
New York City could see snow falls of as much as six inches through the day. Flakes will likely give way to rain as temperatures warm through the morning, but that could shift again to snow and ice during the afternoon if the bombogenesis hits.
The weather phenomenon occurs when central pressure plunges over 24 hours and can create high winds, heavy snow and blizzard-like conditions.
The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory covering a swath from Long Island to the Hudson Valley until 6 p.m.
Snow and ice are possible this afternoon, the service warns.
City and state leaders began preparing for nasty weather ahead of the storm, suspending alternate side parking rules for Saturday.

Governor Cuomo urged New Yorkers to take care while driving the slippery roads.
"Staying alert when driving and being informed of departure times if flying will ensure we avoid needless accidents and frustration and allow storm response teams to prepare our facilities for safe use,” Cuomo said in a statement.
