A Minneapolis woman was believed to have been crawling along an interstate when she was killed by a hit-and-run driver, police said.
Emily Boone was discovered dead on the southbound shoulder of Interstate 35 in St. Paul at 9:30 p.m. Saturday, reports the Star Tribune.
Cops think the 28-year-old, from Maple Grove, was by herself when she either fell or jumped off a 15-foot wall onto the busy road.
It's thought she was then crawling along the ground when she was hit by a vehicle.
She was pronounced dead at the scene. What exactly happened in the lead-up to her tragic death is still unclear.
"We don't know why she was in that area at that time," said Lt. Tiffani Nielson, State Patrol spokeswoman.
But cops now want to track down the driver — who they say may not even have realized that they'd struck a person.
Officers are currently interviewing relatives in a bid to discover why Boone was on her own — and if she had mental health issues.
The medical examiner is also determining whether drugs or alcohol were in her system.
