A troubled mom murdered her two adult sons while they were sleeping and wrote a suicide note before turning the gun on herself at their shared rural Oklahoma home, police said.
Rebecca Smith, 48, called her brother Saturday morning to tell him she planned to kill herself shortly after she shot dead sons Levi Brown, 25, and Garrett Brown, 24, with a rifle, Muskogee County Sheriff’sofficials told the Tulsa World.
Smith, also known as Rebecca Brown, was taking “a lot of medications” and may have had serious mental health issues, Deputy Ashley Mullen told the newspaper.
Smith used a rifle to kill her sons, who had moved in to the rural home with their mother outside Webbers Falls after both went through divorces.
Cops found the bodies around 8 a.m. shortly after the brother called 911.
Officers found a suicide note but have yet to release a motive in the killings. Both men were sleeping when they were murdered, police told the World.
Levi Brown returned to his home state of Oklahoma after serving in the Army, his father, Leroy Brown, told the Muskogee Phoenix.
“Levi went overseas, came back and got shot in his own house,” the distraught dad told the newspaper as he shook his head in disbelief.
Garrett Brown was the father to two young daughters, ages 1 and 3, and had spent Christmas with his dad and brother.
“They were just two good kids,” Leroy Brown told the Phoenix. “I never had a problem with them.”
