A mother was shot dead by her 2-year-old son inside of an Idaho Walmart when the toddler apparently reached into her purse and discharged her gun, authorities said.
Veronica Rutledge, 29, had her son seated in a shopping cart while with family Tuesday when surveillance video captured the boy getting a hold of the firearm, the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office said.
A preliminary investigation into the shooting around 11:15 a.m. in Hayden has described it as "accidental."
Rutledge, from Blackfoot, Idaho, did have a concealed weapons permit, deputies said at a press conference.
