A 23-year-old man who was suspected of dying in a Christmas Eve car crash in Harlem was actually the victim of a shooting, police said Saturday.
Amaury Paulino was driving north on Saint Nicholas Ave. near W. 129th St. when his 2014 Honda Accord slammed into a parked car and flipped over about 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, cops said.
He was rushed to Harlem Hospital, where he died.
Investigators later determined Paulino, who lived about 15 blocks from where he crashed, was shot in the right shoulder, causing him to crash and flip his car, officials said.
The city medical examiner conducted an autopsy and determined it was the gunshot wound that killed him.
Paulino had 11 prior arrests, mostly drug-related, police said.
He was released on parole in February 2013 after serving eight months in state prison for a drug sale conviction, records show.
