Body of unidentified man found in Bronx River in apparent suicide

The unidentified man, believed to be in his 40s, was spotted in the river in Hunts Point Saturday morning. A backpack with a large rock was found along with the body leading police to suspect suicide.

A man's body was discovered in the Bronx River Saturday morning with a large rock in his backpack, the victim of an apparent suicide.
The unidentified man, believed to be in his 40s, was spotted in the river near Bruckner Blvd. and Edgewater Road in Hunts Point about 9:45 a.m.
Police pulled the body from the water, along with the black backpack containing the rock, and were working to identify the man.
The city medical examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine how he died.
