Mel-Quann Hodge (r.) and Daphany Sanders (f.), 22, are pictured. Sanders lied to police about how their child, Michael Hodge, suffered an injury to his head.

It wasn't a crime just a cover-up.
A Bronx mom's tale of a bat-wielding bandit bashing her 2-month-old son in the head was a lie spun after the infant took a spill while in her care, a police source said Tuesday.
Little Michael Hodge was critically injured in the fall, and remained at Jacobi Hospital as police investigators dismantled his mother's version of what happened.
The injured boy finally opened his eyes hours later, police said.

Sanders said that the man who attack Hodge and the toddler was using a baseball bat, and when Hodge deflected the blow, it ricocheted right at the toddler's head.

In the mother's re-telling of what happened, Michael was tucked in his father's arms when a man wearing a black hoodie and waving a bat jumped out of a car at 12:20 a.m. Tuesday.
The suspect swung at the father, who deflected the blow with his hand  only to see bat ricochet into the baby's unprotected head.
A police probe quickly exposed mom Daphany Sanders, 22, as lying about the “confrontation” with two robbers in the Soundview section.

Baby Michael Hodge was in critical condition at Jacobi Hospital after the incident in Soundview early Tuesday.

“There was no assault,” the source told the Daily News. “The father wasn't even around when it happened.”
The city Administration for Children's Services was now involved in the probe. No charges were immediately brought against anyone.
