Diddy pays homage to Biggie Smalls on 18th anniversary of rapper's death with throwback photo

It's hard to believe it's been 18 years since the Notorious B.I.G. was dominating the charts.
The rapper, whose real name was Christopher Wallace, died of a gunshot wound in Los Angeles, Calif. on March 9, 1997. He was 24 and his murder has never been solved.
While fans old and new pay homage to Biggie Smalls on the anniversary of his tragic passing, his closet friend, Diddy, is urging fans to share more.
"Today is March 9, 2015," the music mogul captioned a throwback photo of Biggie as a young boy on Instagram
"18 years ago today we lost one of my best friends in the greatest rapper of all time the B I G," he added. "#RIPBIG post your favorite BIG picture. And how you feel about him."
