EXCLUSIVE: Councilman Donovan Richards (D-Queens) said Christina Walker, 12, is recovering. ‘I think she’s going to pull through 100%.’ The girl was the lone survivor of the Jan. 24 slaughter that left her mom, sister and grandmother dead. Her 12-year-old sister Christina Walker (right) managed to dial 911 during the ordeal and is recovering.
The Queens girl who managed to call 911 after her father shot her in the head is alert and speaking.
“She’s doing much better,” Councilman Donovan Richards (D-Queens) said of Christina Walker, 12. “It’s going to be a long road to recovery, but she is ... a strong-willed young girl. I think she’s going to pull through 100%.”
Christina was the lone survivor of the Jan. 24 massacre at the family’s Springfield Gardens home. Jonathan Walker, 34, shot Christina’s sister, Kayla, 7, her mother, Shantai Hale, 31, and grandmother Viola Warren, 62. Christina dialed 911 and named her father as the shooter. Walker fled and shot himself in the head, cops said.
Richards said Christina asked about her mom over the weekend.
“She just found out Sunday that unfortunately she lost her family,” said Richards, who plans to set up an education fund for Christina. “It hurt my heart ... Unfortunately, I’ve been through many of these situations, but not a situation of this caliber.”
Richards said the community is prepared to rally around Christina.
“We will do everything in our power to help her,” he said.
Those wishing to donate can call Richards’ office at (718) 471-7014.
