NRMEDIOIMAGES/GETTY IMAGESThieves are sending out fake parking ticket confirmation emails in an attempt to get personal information.
Tech-savvy thieves are trying to bait city residents into giving up personal financial information with fake emails that look like parking ticket payment confirmations.
The “phishing” emails were sent from an account with a legit-looking “finance.nyc.gov address,” an official said.
The emails “may contain links to fraudulent websites where someone will be asked to share personal or financial information,” a city spokesman said.
The misleading missives may also contain files that install malware on a computer.
