The gunman who blasted a Las Vegas mother during a fatal road-rage showdown lived just down the block — and he had help, police said.
Officers busted 19-year-old neighbor Erich Nowsch on Monday in a bizarre twist to the week-long manhunt for Tammy Meyers' killer, authorities said. They also revealed they're still hunting for a second suspect.
The arrest of a familiar face outraged the 44-year-old victim's family.
"We know this boy," Meyers' husband, Robert Meyers told reporters. "He knew where we I lived. We knew how bad he was, but we didn't know he was this bad."
Authorities had a brief standoff with Nowsch at a west Las Vegas home before hauling him out in front of Robert Meyers, according to KVVU-TV. The emotional husband angrily cried at a cop and then screamed at reporters.
“There’s the (expletive) who killed my wife,” Meyers shouted at a police officer. He then directed his grief toward members of the media.
“There’s the animal. A block away,” Meyers said before storming off.
Erich Nowsch, 19, was charged with fatally shooting his Las Vegas neighbor, Tammy Meyers, in a road rage incident.
Nowsch is charged with murder with a deadly weapon, attempted murder with a deadly weapon and discharging a gun within a structure or vehicle.
Meyers was giving her teen daughter a driving lesson when the girl honked at a speeding car. The encounter escalated quickly, and it didn't end when the mother and daughter returned home. Meyers and her gun-toting 22-year-old son reportedly went out in search of the suspect, and they were standing in the family's driveway when he pulled up and opened fire.
Meyers collapsed in the driveway as her son allegedly returned fire as the shooter sped away. The critically wounded mother was taken off life support two days after the shooting.
Police had previously released a sketch of a suspect that showed a young man with spiky dark hair. Roberts Meyers claimed the family knew who was responsible but couldn't reveal his identity before the arrest. He told reporters his wife had been kind to the young neighbor, even giving him money and offering advice about growing up.
The identity of the second suspect is unclear, and police haven't identified that person's role in the killing.
Nowsch has been taken to police headquarters for questioning, but Las Vegas police Capt. Chris Tomaino said detectives “still have a lot of investigative work to do.”
Initial reports fueled by the family’s GoFundMe fundraising site said Meyers and her daughter were followed home and met with gunfire, but police later revealed that wasn’t the case.
Meyers’ husband shut down the page and refunded donors with about $6,000 in donations after hearing complaints that they were not forthright with what happened.
One donor said they would be reporting their fundraiser to GoFundMe, according to KTNV-TV.
“So many lies from the family,” the donor wrote.
Meyers claimed a friend started the fundraising page.
“If all of you people think I was a fraud and lied about facts, I’m truly sorry. I only ever said what was told to me,” Meyers said in a statement to his Facebook page.
